Dr. Ross Anderson

Dr. Ross S. Anderson, DVM, is a distinguished veterinarian with a career spanning several decades, marked by his unwavering dedication to animal welfare and his expertise in both domestic and exotic animal care. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University.

For 20 years, Dr. Anderson served as the primary veterinarian at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. During his tenure, he provided expert medical care for a wide range of exotic animals and was involved in several groundbreaking procedures, including an extraordinary eye surgery performed on a gorilla—a case that drew public and media attention for its complexity and significance. His calm, confident demeanor and surgical acumen made him a central figure in the zoo’s veterinary team and earned him the respect of keepers, staff, and the broader zoological community.

Following his years at the zoo, Dr. Anderson opened and successfully operated a small animal and exotic veterinary practice for 16 years. His work there continued to reflect his core values of compassion, precision, and personalized care for every patient—whether domestic pets or less-common species requiring specialized attention.

Currently, Dr. Anderson continues practicing at West Jordan Veterinary Hospital in West Jordan, Utah, where he serves as an Associate Veterinarian. He remains a respected and trusted presence, known for his decades of experience, thoughtful treatment plans, and enduring relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Anderson lives on a gentleman’s farm with his wife. He is an avid collector and passionate poet, hobbies that reflect the same curiosity, care, and thoughtfulness he brings to his professional work. His legacy extends beyond the clinic through his mentorship of younger professionals and his ongoing influence in the field of exotic animal care.
